Travels Homeward

Dan, Greg and I are now in Springfield, OH after driving for almost ten hours straight yesterday.  We ran into some really heavy rain and fog, which slowed us down, but fortunately no snow.  Yet.

Highlights from yesterday:

  • The kittens made it clear they didn’t want us to leave (or that they were coming with us):

  • Notes to self: We found several pre-existing notes to ourselves on our route yesterday through Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, such as the following:dscn05161Duly noted, we stopped our self-engines.  Then there was the rest stop bathroom that said “Self-Flush,” so we complied yet again.  The creepiest part, though, was the self-portraits from long, long ago at Cracker Barrel.
  • Dan, giving directions, told Greg to take a “sleft light,” which I giggled about all day long. All day.

Today, we head further north for Chicago and the snow belt – they got 8 inches the night before last, but the roads should be clear by today.  We hope.

Very clever. On an unrelated note, Ray Bradbury is terrible and history will eventually judge him as such.

  2. Sarah says:

Jeff, you would have loved the game we played in the car, ranking American male singer-songwriters. Very interesting. Maybe on the way back to Virginia we should do novelists, sci fi?

  3. Jeff says:

You’re right; I would have loved that game. We all know #1, but who’s next, Tom Waits? Pops would say Paul Simon, but I don’t think so.

Sci Fi writers is a good idea, too. Don’t forget Philip K. Dick!

  4. wellmet says:

Yes, well, your #1 was in a different place on our lists. Paul Simon was up there for us. And I don’t think we even thought of Tom Waits. But you’ll be happy to know Neil Diamond was well regarded in the car (just kidding…). You’ll have to ask Dan, he wrote down our various lists.

  5. Dan says:

I believe I did mention that Jeff would mention Tom Waits, if he were in the car. Surely he wouldn’t have made any of our lists anyway. He might just edge out Art Garfunkel on my list of old, odd “musicians” who also had a few minor acting roles.

  6. wellmet says:

I can’t believe I didn’t hear you say Art Garfunkel, either! He would have been higher on my list. (Not that high, but still…) I’m telling you, the back seat of Greg’s car is a black hole for sound.
